ARLINGTON, TEXAS – December 1, 2014 – Located in Bedford, Texas, Adam Smith’s Texas Harley is one of the top ten Harley-Davidson dealerships in the United States. The dealership is currently split up into three separate buildings; with an ever-growing inventory of new and used motorcycles, clothes, parts and accessories and giftware, Texas Harley has run out of space to expand.
On November 12, Texas Harley broke ground on an exciting new facility that will consolidate business operations into one building and expand available space by 20,000 SF over the dealership’s current configuration. The groundbreaking ceremony was attended by Jim Griffin, Mayor of the city of Bedford, Bedford City Council Members Ray Champney and Roger Fisher, State Senator Kelly Hancock, Bedford Police Chief Roger Gibson and Harley-Davidson District Manager Gary Barnes. Owner Adam Smith pushed the detonator on a ceremonial pyrotechnics array at the six-acre site.
The new 71,000 SF facility will add a dramatic overlook to Highway 187 / Airport Freeway in the DFW mid-cities. It will span two stories and will be built with tilt-up construction. The exterior will be stylized with Harley-Davidson’s emblematic black and orange color scheme. A large glass curtainwall array will showcase the sales area and provide natural lighting to the facility.
The interior will feature a modern design of exposed ceilings, industrial finishes and stained floors, with advanced LED monitors around the sales space to showcase Harley-Davidson products. Suspended catwalks and on-floor stages will display motorcycles. A large service area and parts warehouse will support Harley owners, with training rooms and waiting areas available for customers’ use.
Bob Moore Construction was selected as the design-build contractor for the Texas Harley project based on the company’s superior performance with three other Harley-Davidson dealerships and its expertise with using tilt-up construction to maximize project cost-effectiveness. Alliance Architects of Richardson, Texas is the architect of record and Design Works Studios in Irvine, California is the interior designer.
“The design team has been working closely with Adam Smith, the people with Texas Harley and the city of Bedford to create a dynamic new building that is worthy of housing a premier Harley-Davidson dealership,” said Kyle Whitesell, Executive Vice President of Bob Moore Construction. “The new facility will be a showcase for Texas Harley and the city of Bedford for many years to come, and we’re excited that they have placed their confidence in us.
“Tilt-up construction played a major role in maximizing the value and capabilities of this design,” Mr. Whitesell added. “Its efficiencies in terms of cost and scheduling helped us to create a truly remarkable design while keeping the costs realistic for Texas Harley. This will ultimately be a great example of how tilt-up construction can be used to create a building that is not only high quality, but delivers the incredible wow factor you would expect for an iconic American brand like Harley-Davidson.
